Prayers when Grieving

Lord God,
Look kindly upon us in our sorrow
and gather our pain into Your peace.
Heal our memories,
be present in our grieving,
and overcome all our doubts.
We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, Source of all mercy and comfort,
deal graciously with us who mourn,
that, casting all our sorrow on You,
we may truly know the sure consolation of Your love
and learn to live in confident hope of the resurrection;
through Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Risen Lord,
Come to us who mourn as You came to those
Who mourned on that first Easter morn.
Come with a familiar voice that brings comfort.
Speak those words that remove the sting of death
and grief.
Stand next to us, walk with us, abide with us
even as we mourn sharing Your victory over
the grave and the promise of life eternal with us.
Wipe the tears from our eyes. Give us strength.
Give us confidence. Give us courage. Give us
Your peace. Amen.

Prayer for our Home

Dear God,
May this house be a sacred dwelling for those who live here.
May those who visit feel the peace we have received from
You.
May darkness not enter.
May the light of God shield this house from harm.
May the angels bring their peace here and use our home as
a haven of light.
May all grow strong in this place of healing,
our sanctuary from the loudness of the world.
May it be used by You forever. Amen.

Shed Your rays of light upon this home that those who live here may be confident of Your guidance and walk with steady faith. Be close in time of stress or pain and give courage and hope that never fails. We commit to Your love and care this home and all who dwell therein through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (Prayer Home)

Prayer for Animals and Pets

O God, our heavenly Father, we worshipYou, we adoreYou. You have made this
world so beautiful. In it You have placed so many species of animals. All of them
give You glory. We thank You for all of them.

We are so deeply grateful, O God, for all pleasure and joy our pets bring us.
By Your Word, Almighty God, all things are made holy. We pray that You
pour down Your blessings on our pets. We pray that You will keep our pets
safe from all harm and take care of them in Your divine providence.

We ask these blessings, O God, as we ask for all good things through Jesus
Christ, our Lord in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Prayer for Mothers/Mother's Day

Eternal God, on this day we lift up mother’s to You. You, O Lord, are the
One “Who, from our mother’s arms, hath blessed us on our way with
countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.” Scripture has prepared
us to recognize that by Your grace, mothering takes many forms.

We pray for those mothers around us…

…For those who, like Jesus’ mother Mary, have been surprised by the
unexpected responsibility of parenting. Remind us not so much of the
circumstance through which children come into the world, but that
they are always a gift from You. Help us to always see Your image in
them.

…We pray for those who, like Naomi, find themselves parenting someone
outside the predictable patterns of mothering. Bless this day all grand-
parents, aunts, foster parents, adoptive parents, and kindly people who
care for children.

…And we give thanks for those like Ruth who become caregivers for
their elders. Because the generations that need to be mothered and the
seasons of our lives can change, we sometimes find ourselves mothering
those who have even forgotten who we are. We take strength in knowing
that You remember their identity when they no longer do. Grant courage
and strength to all those who provide care in Your Name.

…We pray for those like Mary or Rachel who have known the deepest
agony of a child’s death. Remind them that nothing can separate their
child from Your certain love. Give strength and peace to those who
mourn and those who cannot stop mourning.

…On this day we set aside to remember mothering, we also call to mind
those men who are called to the vocation of mothering, those who, in
the absence of another, seek the heart of a Mary or a Rachel. Let us
renew our commitment to uphold them this day.

…Loving God, the bond between parent and child can be the most
intimate and nurturing of our lives. When this is our experience it is
indeed a foretaste of Your realm. To remember mother’s on one day
is not enough. So, fashion in us a people who pray, work, laugh, and
weep with mothers and children in whatever circumstances is most
faithful. For this we seek Your grace and presence. Through Christ,
in the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray. Amen.

Prayer for Servicemen & Women

Prayer For Peace inspired by Isaiah 1 & 2

O Lord, let us reason together. Let not any land be devoured by the sword.
Let us walk in Your light, O Lord. Show us Your ways. Lead us in the
path of peace. Even now may the swords begin to be beaten into plowshares
and the spears be turned into pruning hooks. We pray for that day when
nation shall not lift sword against nation, and we shall learn war no more.
We long for the time when people shall no longer raise their hand against
Another and the sounds of war will be silenced forever. Let the song of the
angels be the only sounds we hear. Let there be peace on earth and goodwill
towards all people! Amen.

O Lord, watch over those who are in harm’s way. Protect those who are in
far away places to keep the peace. Bring an end to the conflicts that keep
them apart from their families and friends. Let them return safely to those
they love and who love them. We pray for the day when soldiers and guns
are no longer needed to keep the peace. We look for that day when peace
will well up from within the hearts of people and clenched fists become
hands held out in friendship and cooperation. Amen.

Prayer for a Spouse

Dear God,
I pray today for the one I love.
I pray to see his/her tenderness,
I pray to see his/her innocence,
and I pray that he’ll/she’ll see mine.
I pray that he/she be surrounded by light,
that Your angels come and bless him/her.
I pray that he’ll/she’ll be happy,
and his/her heart filled with love.
I pray that I might be to him/her
a man/woman who honors and adores him/her.
His/Her gladdened heart is happiness to me.
Thank you, God. Amen.
