The Bovina United Presbyterian Church is located in a rural Catskill Mountain area within New York State with 664 residents. The church is the focal point for the community since many adults and children spend one-third to one-half of their days in other nearby communities. The village is quiet, neat, and well kept. Bovina residents could be classified as being conservative although capable of embracing new ideas. There has been little shift in residency, however in recent years there has been an influx of retirees from urban areas. The town might be viewed as a bedroom community since most jobs are outside of town and the children are bused to their respective schools. Because of this fact, the church is critical and necessary for drawing residents together. The town and surrounding areas can also be described as a recreational/resort area. Specifically, there has been an increase in privately owned Bed and Breakfast facilities to accommodate visitors. Recreational activities within the area include hunting, fishing, skiing, and the exploration of the beautiful countryside, rich in natural resources. We receive many compliments and there are those who say Bovina is one of the most scenic areas in New York State. Other sports activities are available in nearby towns, such as public swimming pools, tennis courts, and golf courses.
